The Ford Kentucky Truck Plant will be adding 550 new jobs thanks to the popularity of the Ford Expedition and its luxury sibling, the Lincoln Navigator. Both models experienced tremendous success in 2018. Specifically, retail sales of the Expedition surged by 35 percent year over year, with the Expedition grabbing 5.6 more percentage points of the segment. The Navigator also improved from 2017 to 2018 to the tune of a 70 percent increase.
To keep up with the increased demand for these two models, Ford has decided to up Navigator and Expedition production at the Kentucky Truck Plant. To do so, the plant needed to add speed (safely) to the manufacturing process. The manufacturing team at the plant put their heads together and identified where there were some inefficiencies in the current process. Ultimately, they developed some big changes to the production process for the Expedition and Navigator, which led to a need for 550 more jobs at the plant.
“Kentucky Truck Plant is home to two of Ford and Lincoln’s most successful vehicles,” said John Savona, Ford vice president, North American manufacturing. “After seeing a continued increase in customer demand for Expedition and Navigator, we are boosting production for a second time to meet it.”
