Ford, Google Ink Six-Year Deal to Bring Android to Vehicles
Ford and Google in February announced a game-changing partnership that brings the two titans together. One of the most exciting developments to come from the new relationship is the integration of the Android OSin future Ford vehicles.
By teaming with Google, Ford will start offering Android as the standard operating system for millions of models beginning in 2023. That means new Ford vehicles that you’ll find at Shults Ford Harmarville will come with Google apps and services right out of the gate. And don’t worry, Apple lovers: Ford vehicles will still support devices like the iPhone®.
“We are obsessed with creating must-have, distinctively Ford products and services,” said Ford CEO Jim Farley. “This integration will unleash our teams to innovate for Ford and Lincoln customers while seamlessly providing access to Google’s world-class apps and services.”
Among the features you’ll be able to use with the Android OS are Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play. Ford will also use the Google Cloud as its preferred cloud provider, giving the company access to advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.
The partnership will continue to bloom over the next six years with a strong focus on customers. Ford and Google have established a new joint group called Team Upshift, which will explore projects like improving the retail experience, giving drivers customized offers, and personalizing the ownership experience.
When the Ford and Google partnership brings Android OS to the Ford lineup, you’ll find it at the No. 1 Ford dealer in Pennsylvania. You’ll also find the best of what’s new with Ford today — from the all-new 2021 F-150 to the bold Bronco Sport — right here at Shults Ford Harmarville.
